GREAT KNOWLEDGE FROM DAVID

“I’ve found David the son of Jesse, a man after my own heart.” – (Act 13:22)

Apart from God, “David” is the most mentioned name in the Bible; Mentioned more times than Moses, Paul, Jacob, Aaron, even Abraham. This is quite remarkable considering that he was neither the progenitor of his people (Jacob), the founder of his nation (Moses), or even the recipient of the promise of the Messiah (Abraham). He was not even the first or last king of Israel(Saul).

The character of David is so biblically significant that his backstory occupies an entire Bible book (Ruth). If you were reading the Bible for the first time and started from Genesis, you’d be quite taken aback, after 236 chapters – a hitherto unmentioned character bursts into the scene to transform the entire narrative from him onwards.

Jerusalem (Zion), the greatest city in Israel is called “the City of David”, the title of the promised Messiah is “Son of David”, and whereas you had been familiarised with God’s covenant with Abraham (Gen 12:1-3) and with the nation of Israel (Ex 6:4-8), now you get introduced to a new covenant. The “Covenant of David” is so special that it forms a motif behind the history of Israel onwards unto the Messiah. According to Mat 1:1, Jesus’ two most notable ancestors were Abraham and David.

Why is David so important in the Bible? If you know the answer, I’m sure the first person that’d like to hear it is David himself ! He is just as clueless as to how he got singled out of an entire nation to become its star.
In 2Sa 7:18-19 an overwhelmed David reflecting on the LORD’s blessings sat before God and said, “Lord GOD, why am I so important to you? Why is my family important? Why have you made me so important? I am nothing but a servant, but Lord GOD, you have also said these kind things about my future family. Lord GOD, you don’t always talk like this to people, do you?”

That conversation gives us the clearest insight into the mystery of David’s life: He was an undeserving recipient of God’s grace ! Through his life, we can see how God operates with people, and how people in turn respond to Him.
AMEN.
More Blessings await you today; you’ll not miss them in Jesus’ Name.
