"IT WAS A SUCCESSFUL INTERVIEW WITH THE VICE CHANCELLOR OF UNIVERSITY OF ILORIN" SAYS DR. ABDULGANIYU BY AWESU JAMIU OLUWADAMILARE.
The Vice Chancellor of university of Ilorin, Prof. Abdulkareem sulaymon Age welcomed and honored the guest of The southwest correspondence of Ar-Risalah International Magazine, Lagos and Barr. Dauda Olayinka, a former chairman of young lawyer Ilorin Bar and pioneer Chairman of The North Zone Young Lawyers Forum together with a Student from the University, Islamic studies Department, Awesu Jamiu oluwadamilare* today, 10th of March 2021.
The VC welcomed series of questions from the interviewers after the formal introduction from Dr. Abdulganiyu, on their quest for making a 45 minutes interview with him.
Dr. Abdulganiyu introduced the first question about the journey so far about the vice Chancellor before he became the current vice Chancellor and the challenges after he finished as a PhD graduate in a view of unemployment that Nigeria socio-economy is encountering.
In response to the questions above, Prof. Sulaymon with a brief summary of how he attained the post as the 10th vice Chancellor of the university in 2017, he included that he joined the institution in 1996 as a senior lecturer after many years in USA and Saudi, he said "I started as an industrial chemistry lecturer as a profession in Oct. 1996 for 12 years" in his interview, he included that, he joined the payroll staff of the institution. He added that, he served the school as the *Dean of the students affairs* for two and half years and also chairman for admission office for about nine years before he finished as the vice Chancellor of Al-hikmah University a position he held for five years before he came back to served as the director of LAPTOP (Laboratory to product unit) for two years.
In his response to the challenges of unemployment, Prof sulaymon Age revealed his personality not to have studied ego during his academics life, he stated that, entrepreneurship and innovation are quite tools to counter the issues of unemployment as he brought the interviewers back to his period he finished his PhD program which he engaged in much creativity that maintained those period of his life before he secured himself with a job. Prof. Sulaymon sends a note of worthwhile to graduates waiting for white collar job to find means and actualise their potentials and talent instead of ravening out the dust for means.
Dr. Abdulganiyu in his questions, requested from the VC on his (VC) childhood background, subsequently in the VC's response, he stated his intentions not to mention any of his background even though he had the best of parents and of course don't want others people's idea to pollute what he sees as his parents gifted blessings and mode of living, in his response, he encouraged people that belongs to the group of comparing classes in terms of social and financial achievement as it serves as nothing to gain from rather than give thanks to the Almighty.
Dr. Abdulganiyu on this occasion, request an answer from the vice Chancellor of university of Ilorin on his concerned perspective on the problem graduates are facing in terms of unemployment as one of the socio-economy problems Nigeria is currently suffering from.
In response to the question, the vice Chancellor, drew the attention of public to the main and important weapons to fight against this to be of creativity and innovation as the world is becoming automatically scientific in terms of wide numbers of innovation and creation of what people inspire and what they see as talent to adopt in exchange for capital. In his inclusions, he said, graduate don't get job easily as they think of, instead the lucky ones do, and in the right sence, one should actualise one's talent and make use of one's degree individually or partnership. Degree shows level of expectations, utilise it and create job for yourself, he included.
Again, Dr. Abdulganiyu in his interviewing, asked for what really brought the virtues of principles in him, as people regards him to be.
In the VC'S response, he laid emphases on his birth background which surface the training he had even though he lost his parents at his early stage of life, he mentioned the good virtue his parents bestowed to him concerning how one take up to live this life comfortably with people. he added that, consistent is a key to success, continuity to one's endeavors takes a long way to one's later achievement and "which is what people see as principles when they see you in that post".
Dr. Abdulganiyu who was conversant of his prescribed time, raised a short and important question on what led to the issue of ASSU's strike after the school has been acknowledged with his academics stability.
In no time, and seriously concerned towards the question, Prof. Abdulkareem sulaymon Age revealed his struggle dated back to the late '90s and in 2000 when Assu national suspended Assu local, which he happened to be among those that stand against the interruption of students' academics caused by ASSU's strike which he once encountered too. in his response, he buttressed the reasons behind this, when he talked about the Nation Assu member coming back to the Local members for reconcilation which the latter agreed and accepted to contribute on any actions taken by the national and which subsequently cause the just concluded strike after he had no say since the Senate approved the reconcilation.
During the last part of the interview, Dr. Abdulganiyu was nervously bented on the meaning of Age, and what actually prompted the name.
In answer to that, the VC stated that his name was give to him by his uncle, who revealed to him to be a tittle given to anyone that's bears sulaymon because of the Prophet sulaymon's physical appearance, agenjolola.
Dr. Abdulganiyu finalised his interviewing with the Vice Chancellor of university of Ilorin on a note of appreciation for his scheduled time to have this opportuned interview with him and ended with the introduction of his accompanies Barr. Dauda Olayinka and Awesu Jamiu oluwadamilare a student from the University.
