"THE AUDIENCE ARE LISTENING_" BY PASTOR GREG ELKAN.
_Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips_ – Psalm 141:3
Have you heard the “Deep Note” sound before? If you've ever seen a Hollywood blockbuster, then the answer is probably “YES!” _Deep Note_ is the signature sound you hear just before the titles role at the beginning of many blockbuster movies. Starting from a relatively narrow frequency spread to a deep broader frequency spread, the sounds blasts through all the speakers as the screen fills up with a logo comprising of just three letters: “THX”.
I use to think “THX” was a sound format, like _Dolby Digital_ or _DTS._ As it turns out, it is actually a *quality assurance system. The job of the company is to certify that theatres and audio equipment provide _high-quality, predictable playback environments to ensure that any film soundtrack mixed in THX will sound AS NEAR AS POSSIBLE to the intentions of the mixing engineer.”_
Getting a theatre to be THX-certified is quite expensive; yet many theatres spend big bucks for it. Why? Because – as the THX company slogan reads – “The Audience is Listening!”
Cinema-goers can tell the difference between a THX and a non-THX experience; and they're willing to pay extra just to hear the sounds of their favourite movie come out right.
The THX company slogan is something Believers need to be reminded of over and over again. We do not live in a vacuum, and whether we realize it or not, the words we speak have an impact on the way people assess us and the Gospel message we claim to represent.
Like the psalmist in Ps 141:3, we must _Set a watch before our mouths and keep a door over our lips._ We must be sensitive to what we say and how we say them. Because, whether we are aware of it or not, *“The Audience is Listening.”*
AMEN
