…AS BECOMETH SAINTS- BY PASTOR GREG ELKAN
_“But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once named among you, *as becometh saints.”*_– Eph 5:3
In Eph 5:3-4 Paul warns the Believers in the Ephesian church against any mention of uncleanness, covetousness, and filthiness. He had similar warnings in his letters to the Believes in Rome, in Thessalonica, in Colosse, and in Corinth (Rom 6:13; 1Co 5:10-11; Col 3:5; 1Th 4:3-7, etc.).
These were saints, by the way; real flesh-and-blood Believers like you and I. Not idealized and hyperbolised persons who could drive away snakes with a wave of hand, live for years on nothing but communion elements, or commit acts of righteousness so great that they more than qualify for Heaven!
A drawback of believing in the existence of super-perfect “saints” is that it absolves us of the responsibility of consecration. But when we concede that _we_ are the “saints” the Bible talks about, we’ll put greater focus on ourselves, knowing that we are only real saints that the world has.
Sainthood is a calling, a calling that we have to live up to. Like Paul said in Eph 5:3 cited earlier, we must make that saintliness show to the world around us: in our conduct, in our behaviour, and in our lifestyle.
AMEN...
