SANCTIFIED ETERNALLY- BY PASTOR GREG ELKAN
_“…by whom you are sealed unto the day of redemption.”_– Eph 4:30
In Eph 4:30, Paul, after giving the Believers several practical counsel on their morality and conduct, adds: _“And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, by Whom you are *sealed unto the day of redemption.*”_
As he explained elsewhere (1Co 6:11; 2Th 2:13) it is the Holy Spirit’s sanctification – His _separating_ us unto Himself – that effects our salvation. Salvation is more than a mental decision, or a change of lifestyle; it is a vital operation that takes place in the spirit realm through our faith in Christ.
At salvation – among other things – we were sanctified by the Holy Spirit, our previously dead spirit was recreated in Christ, we were reconciled to God, we were translated out of the kingdom of darkness into God’s kingdom, we were adopted into God’s family, our names were written in the Book of life, and (as previously quoted), we were _“sealed unto the day of redemption,”_ (1Pt 1:2; 2Co 5:17,18; Col 1:13; Jn 1:12; Rev 3:5; etc.).
The Holy Spirit is not a fickle girlfriend that leaves each time He's offended; the Holy Spirit is there with the Believer, forever. Indeed, it for this reason that Paul enjoins us not to grieve Him.
We must make a distinction between true Believers in Christ and those who merely assented to an “altar call”, feel remorse for their bad deeds, or simply had a change in moral behaviour.
The Believer is literally God’s property – bought at the great price of the Blood of His dear Son. It is He Himself that _sanctifies_ and cleanses us with the washing of water by the word, that He might present us to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. (Eph 5:26,27).
_“For by one offering He has perfected forever them that are sanctified.”_ – Heb 10:14.
AMEN...
