TEACHER: A CANDLE THAT ILLUMINATED HER LIFE- BY MITRA S.

It was quite dark at night
in Sangrur village , Punjab, where Arheer lived with her family. She was a decent , fair complexioned 17 years damsel , who aspired to become a doctor. For deprivation and poverty , she realised the value of education. She was studying in a government school in Sangrur village where more than 300 students regularly visited school for a prerequisite for  mid - day meals , forbearing the regnant economic crisis.  On a vast land  Arheer 's father was dependant on farming and dairy production. He also had a small poultry in his courtyard. The unfortunate girl lost her mother at tender age of 10 and her aunt brought her up to a charming girl.  She would often ask her aunt " I want to fulfil the dreams of my mother and become a doctor ". " I think ,if I secure a good score in my NEET exams then , I will be fortunate to get enrolled in a renowned college . I aspire to treat all the patients in this village ".  She was enlivened with various means of education when she was introduced to Lalita Attwal, a 45 years old woman who was determined to literate all the girls in this village and enable them to be successful in life.  Lalita was conducting a literacy program in this village through a N.G.O.
Over  her interactions that followed in the the due course of time , Lalita observed the spirit in Arheer and her determination to become a gynaecologist.  Her potency and innate capacity to battle with her adversities , convinced the teacher to uplift Arheer with a support. She helped her in her studies , teaching her theoretical knowledge and practical and clinical skills. She consided with her , over general views at times to enthuse in her a confidence  , invigorating so much pleasure and hope to shine brighter in life.
Over her medical entrance exam for NEET in the following year , Arheer scored 690 to gear up her passion and proved her worth with a decent  position to study in a reputed medical college in West Bengal. Her aspirations took to a flight , when Lalita consistently, motivated her for the selection of the best college in the city of joy.  With a good rank , she was enrolled in a respectable medical college. She took blessings from her teacher and went aboard to a flight , which was sponsored by the village panchayat as the first girl who was about to become a doctor in that village was a matter of great pride. She bowed down to her teacher and whispered in her ears " you have been the candle in my life to illuminate my soul . You are divine, you are my God whom I will worship throughout my life till eternity . Grant me more wisdom. " Lalita was silent and sombre as her tears reciprocated her deep emotions and instantly she  embrace her student.
She was mesmerized at her gesture. She was equally excited at Arheer 's new life , where she will meet new faces to march forward to embellish her life with pride and dignity.  Life was full of challenges ahead. And Lalita was confident that Arheer will establish a strong foundation of being an expert doctor ahead in life. Her urge to care for the villagers in tenacity to change lives accepting very low  charges for a medical check up  , would develop and motivate more enthusiasts to go for Neet exams. With Arheer,  a new dawn began to compliment enthusiasm and willingness to work hard , supported by a candle to show the light towards a goal.
The entire village celebrated Arheer 's success over her entrance in a dignified profession. Lalita was admired for her consistent efforts towards Arheer. Lalita opened a new institution with the name " Future foundation " to teach new aspirants to chase their goals. Life was difficult to catapult into a successful story , but it was possible through a good teacher who weaved a mind to dream about a future , a paradise. We need more such teachers to dig the hope and enlighten the lives of students with divine spirit.
An unexpected  letter arrived at the institution after 5 years.  It astonished Lalita.  It was an invitation to visit ARHEER 's new clinic in the city. She wanted to honour Lalita with a formal acknowledgement. On the occasion , Arheer went up to  the stage to deliver a speech. There she restrained her impulsive tears into a semblage. She lifted the mike and upholded her pride " You have enlightened my life with optimism and confidence. Whenever there was a confusion , your hand over my head emboldened my spirits. Your blinking of eyes , implanted in me a strong hope that , I will be successful. I find you as my mentor and angel whose guidances defined my personality and profession. I'm desperate to bow down today to show my gratitude. " " May your light spread throughout the world to change more minds into a custodian of righteous goals in life. Thank you teacher for being the candle and illuminating my life". That was the best gift a teacher like Lalita could treasure and cherish.
