READING THE BIBLE, WRONGLY- PASTOR GREG ELKAN
_Study to show yourself approved unto God... rightly dividing the word of truth._ – 2Ti 2:15
The Bible is the word of God – in the literal sense of the word. The words to be found upon its pages have life-transforming, soul-redeeming, body-healing and miracle-working power.
Furthermore, the Believer’s spiritual growth is inextricably tied to his or her knowledge of Scripture. As 1Pe 2:2 charges, you should _“Desire God’s pure word as newborn babies desire milk. Then you will grow in your salvation,”_ (GW).
Sadly, however, constantly reading the Bible is not in itself a guarantee that you will grow spiritually. A Christian who approaches the Bible with faulty assumptions and presumptions; who has a flawed understanding of what The Bible is or how it actually works, may well be reading the Bible daily but remain stunted spiritually.
And in some cases, such Christian can imbibe harmful ideologies, not by reading the Bible, but by reading the Bible _wrongly._
There are a great many ways people misread Scriptures. One that readily comes to mind is reading verses out of context. It is bad enough when that method is used by sly preachers who want to mislead us, but it becomes even more dangerous when _we_ are the ones using that method to mislead ourselves while presuming we are receiving instructions from God.
Beloved, the Bible is a big book: big enough to say anything to anybody if read haphazardly. But if we truly want to know what God is saying in any place in His word, then we must put in some extra work, and read it completely – in its context.
AMEN...
