ODE: "GENUINE" BY CYRA
Well, my son I am sorry,
I ask for your forgiveness,
For the guilt is killing me,
I could never leave you at that age without a genuine reason,
It's 20 years down the line,
How will I explain myself?
Will you accept me?
Your mother and I had some problems so I had to quit,
Our efforts to solve them was futile,
When you see me call me Daddy,
I will gladly respond.
You know not the love of a father because I quited,
Hold nothing against me, because you were too young then to understand,
Ask your mum about what transpired, and pay attention,
My son I hope you will forgive me for this,
I am the daddy of that family and will still be
I will approach you and tell you everything,
Please promise to give me an ear,
Daddy loves you still!
CYRA THE POET
(Dripping pen)
The poet persona speaks as a man who meets his son years after having some misunderstanding with his wife. They seem to meet in the world of ghetto since the boy has a halved parental care. He apologizes to his son and tells him he deserted the boy for some uncontrollable reasons.
