NEGLIGENT PARENTS- BY JIM KEMP
Suffering can touch all of us at any time in our lives. But there’s nothing sadder than to see children suffering because of their parents’ neglect. It is becoming more and more common for fathers to be absent from the home. This greatly affects the emotional development of a child. But it is not the only thing...
In some homes, there is constant fighting, alcoholism, or even violence. Children grow up in the midst of screaming and tears. Sometimes they are physically injured because of a parent’s violent temper.
In other homes, parents are so concerned with their own fulfilment, that they put their children way down on the list of priorities. Many children spend long periods of time alone, and have to seek out neighbours when they are in need or in danger. They feel rejected. They feel like they are a “bur- den” to their parents and suffer because of it.
Even in rich families, the care of children is often given over to nannies or teachers. When there is free time that could be dedicated to the family, parents would rather do something for themselves to have fun. Children grow up without really getting to know the warmth of a family.
Mom and dad, spend time with your children. Love them and help them feel secure, loved, and accepted. They really need you.
Psalm 46 is a comfort to those who suffer. If you are feeling neglected or unloved at this moment, lean on the Lord. He is a loving Father who never fails and is always near. You don’t need to be afraid of him. He is powerful and controls all things. He is _“always ready to help in times of trouble”._
