JEREMIAD: "WHERE I COME FROM" BY TREMENDOUS WENYU
I did not choose where to be born
Neither had my parents did
I did not choose who my father be
Neither had I choose who my mother
I did not choose where I came from
Had I choose what I live in.
In this deep hood ghetto of Africa
Where we strive only for the best
The fear of being average motivates us
Where everyday is filled with sorrow
No handouts to look at, pain our routine
In this jeopardy world
Where we receive no credit good
Pain to us is inevitable
Solace granted in dreams
Where our dreams are lived by others
Where our fathers die without anything to will us
Where youths die at tender age
Here nobody looks for next page
Sorrow and struggle and frustration
Are our daily bread, dreams are tattered.

The poet persona says how children are choicelessly born into families. Yet, these children pass through a lot of pains before attaining success.
