ROMANTICISM: "YOU ARE MY PERSON" BY DR. ADEBAYO BELLO
...in a season of so much prejudice, deceit and pretences, I remain who I am and you remain my person....
You are my person even if your language draws from your mouth like okro soup
You are my person even if your parchment is darker than charcoal
You are my person even if your colour is as white as snow
Your language, colour and religion means nothing to me
You are my person if you see me as you are
Whether you kneel down in churches or prostrate in mosque
Whether you pour libations in shrines or sing hymns in synagogues
Your halleluyah in churches, Allahu Akbar in mosques and Yeparipa in shrines means nothing to me
You are my person if you see me as you are
You are my person if you love the kids and respect the elderly
You are my person if you care for the destitute, the poor and the disabled
If you freely escape from the captivity of reason by seeing nobility beyond riches, you are my person
You are my person, if your position or status does not becloud your sense of judgement
Your riches, position and status means nothing to me
You are my person, if you see me as you are
If you freely escape from the captivity of religion by loving all without discrimination, you are my person
You are my person if you prefer self-help to begging
You are my person if you prefer self-discipline to self-indulgence
If you are contented with little and legitimately strive for more, you are my person
You are my person, if you see God in all and love all unconditionally
You are my person if you believe in love for all and hatred for none
You are my person, if you see me as you are
