TINY TOTS IN TAVERN: CALL FOR NATIONAL POLICY- BY SOCIAL SEER
Since last Saturday, I have been wrenching and puking. I suddenly took ill because of what I saw and heard that impacted on my nervous system . I had to visit an August family along Ijede Road in Ikorodu. I went as far as Elepe. In order to make it brisk, I abandoned my car and joined the public transport. When I got to the bus stop called NNPC ,the rain was pouring, it seemed another universal deluge was in the offing. I was forced to hibernate under a shed. Within some minutes, some JSS students who had just finished their examination, joined me. They were restless. I got interested when they started praying fervently for the rain to stop so they could join their mates in a nearby hotel to celebrate! I was dumbfounded, cold shivers ran through my spine. Celebrate what? In an hotel? Under whose supervision? Millions of thoughts raised through my mind. Would they drink Coke or beer? I had to gather my thoughts together in order not to interrogate further. I thought that a generation was destroying themselves unknowingly. Where are the parents? Where are the adults. One thing I ensured was to give an homily but was that enough to minds made up?
I finally submitted that government at all levels should ensure that minors, under 18 should not be allowed into hotels without the consent or supervision of either their parents or teachers.
