HOPE POEM: I HAVE A DREAM" BY PROF. EGBOWON
I might not have riches
Nor be endowed with wealth
I might not be famous
Nor have helpers around me
I need not go into depression
Nor allow complex to overwhelm me
Success doesn't come from stagnation
Nor fame from idleness
I have a dream
I have a hope
I have a plan
God has given me brain to think
God has given me innate ability to propel me
That idea roaming in my brain
I will give it a voice in my intellect
I will allow my mind to give it strength
I will allow my legs to take me out of stagnation
I will allow my hand to scribble the inner voice
I will take my computer and store it for future use
I will discuss it with people of like minds
For problems shared is half solved.
I will not rest on my oars
Neither will I feel I have arrived
I will strive to learn more
Learning is continuous
For the more you learn
The more you realise you have much to learn
I have a dream to pursue
The actualisation of a dream is in the starting
I will not be afraid of those who want to discourage me
For what they cannot conceive
They cannot destroy
I have a dream
I will not lose hope
Though the path be dark as night
There is a star to guide the humble
My hope is built on the Lord
He will guide me safely to the end
I have a dream.

The poet persona energizes himself towards success. The voice believes in the future reality of his dream through God who has given life to him. He says his challenges cannot destroy him, for these struggles are not his Lord.
