JESUS FIXATION: THE CURE TO IDOLATRY- BY GREG ELKAN

_“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”_ – 1Ti 2:5.

Human beings like to place intermediaries between God and themselves. Right from when Adam and Eve sinned in Eden, they and all their descendants have created systems to stay away from God, even when His arms are outstretched towards them in love.

We see a graphic depiction of this with the Israelites in their exodus from Egypt. God expressed His desire to speak directly with them and make them a nation of priests (Ex 19:3-11). Nevertheless, when the time came, they pushed Moses to address God on their behalf instead, (Ex 20:18-21).

And while Moses was up on the Mount speaking to God, they promptly crafted the fabled ‘Golden Calf,’ declaring, _“These are your gods, O Israel, who have brought you up out of the land of Egypt,”_ (Ex 32).

The temptation for idolatry – finding replacements for God instead of dealing with Him directly – is a tendency in us all. It comes in the form of idols, gods, “ancestors,” angels, “saints”… and, (more subtly), pastors, reverend fathers, celebrity preachers, etc.

How do we cure ourselves of this primal disease? Heb 12:2 has the answer

It is by _“Looking unto Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith.”_ Or, as the Amplified version puts it, _“Looking *away* [from all that will distract] to Jesus, Who is the Leader and the Source of our faith [giving the first incentive for our belief] and is also its Finisher [bringing it to maturity and perfection].”_

It is difficult, if not impossible, to have a Jesus-focused theology, and be idolatrous at the same time. Because the whole point of idolatry, is to take you away from Jesus.

He, (Jesus), is the true mediator and intermediary between God and Man. God may be dwelling _“in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man has seen, nor can see:”_ (1Ti 6:16), but He has made Himself totally accessible in the Person of Christ Jesus (2Cor 5:19).

Hallelujah!

Beloved, refuse to let anyone or anything stand between you and your creator. Take your relationship with Him to the next level today; tell Him about all your dreams, desires and aspirations; tell Him about your fears, worries and needs.

_Cast all your cares on Him; because He cares for you,_ (1Pe 5:7)!

AMEN
More Blessings await you today; you’ll not miss them in Jesus’ Name.
