JEREMIAD: "PAINFUL BLESSINGS" BY PROF. MEYA
We didn't ask for much
We only prayed our wishes
Our prayers were not only answered
We were granted In excess.
The painful blessings.
No more jubilation songs
We are left with sorrowful tears
What we had built for decades was flooded and plained in seconds
The painful blessings.
Raining cats and dogs
Rivers turning into oceans
Village turning into swamp
The gardens are no longer for planting
They are oasis
Painful blessings
Death fall, from heaven
Children cries in search of family
Mother's wailing in a search.
The painful blessings
Helpless fathers in dimming hope of searching
The rescued are half dead
No beginning or rather hope to rebuild
Floods deprived our pride.
The painful blessings

The poet persona laments over blessings being accompanied by new set of challenges. Such that, the problems appear more than the few blessings being received.
