DIDACTIC: "YOU VS YOU FIGHT" BY MAURICE
The part of you that wants to lose
Versus the part of you that has a life you’d choose
It’s a daily battle, a daily war
To wake up and have to take it all
A life that you wish to live
Calls foe some efforts you don’t want to give
The dreams that you see in your sleep
Need bending over backward to reap
And the life you want for tommorow
Calls for today’s down payment in work and sorrow
So in the urges of going home
And in the rages of a violent storm
Stay strong and tell yourself that;
The wilder the surroundings, the strong your will and heart
And when the losing part wants to quit
Feeling like you’re something the world can beat
Tell yourself that life is meant to be lived,
Working torwards you’ve belived
And on the days you dont want to wake
You feel like sitting in and holding back
Remember, the sun only shines when it’s risen
And you don’t get to have what you haven’t given
So dont let your winning part lose
When it’s you versus you, it’s winning you you choose…

The poet persona accounts that the challenge any man faces is mostly against his or herself. One is only as successful or unsuccessful as he or she makes himself or herself.
