DIDACTIC: "WHAT MEN DO" BY AJAKAYE STRIDA
When she nurses a dream,
he treats it sincerely with boundless support.
When her emotions are broken,
he fixes her with passionate words,
with her head on his reliable shoulders.
When she tells him "No!", he withdraws sensibly,
selfless he is for her future is priceless.
When she stands independently,
he identifies and takes his responsibilities still.
When her head is heated with heavy workloads,
he does not take her to the club;
he takes her to Nike Art Gallery, National Museum...
When she receives admiration from thousands,
he gladly sharpens the factors of her value.
In his colourless heart,
her picture is second to his daily plans,
his prosperity is the house,
her voice manages the prosperity.
He never washes plates for his golden woman,
he pays someone to so do.
He does not scrub panties like a slave,
he pays a drycleaner.
What do men do?
Men do take charge
by launching their wives as Mrs. Self-reliant.
"This Bianca Ojukwu is a great woman." I uttered.
"Don't you know she is Chukwuemeka Ojukwu's wife?" My mother rhetorised.

The poet persona teaches that men are meant to show love to their wives in unique ways. The voice gives that men are to build their wives towards independence, ensure that wives are emotionally balanced, humbly listen to their women and other sundries.
