ODE: "WHEN MERMAIDS LIVE ON EARTH" BY AJAKAYE STRIDA.

When mermaids live on earth,

they are as beautiful as a peacock amongst birds,

they love to visit the sea

while their close ones sit under a tree.

Using a seashell to feed while sibling uses a spoon.

When mermaids live on earth,

eyes are sparkling white, legs are solidly straight,

failing to be worthy of marriage by spiritual spouses' attachment. 

If luckily married, nipples locked for breastfeeding,

Yeye said I breastfed my water babies before born on earth?

When mermaids live on earth,

you see man-made tails on internet,

and you wonder if mermaids truly exist,

they certainly do exist,

they do, now living as human beings.

The poet persona addresses the existence of mermaids on earth. The voices tells that mermaids have now left the sea to be born as human beings. Yet, they still show special features of being marine beings. Such as: extreme beauty, being unable to be married, inability to breastfeed young ones and others.
