JEREMIAD: "NIGHT ECHOES" BY MAURICE CHIADZWA
Like your voice echoing in the night
Torturing me, in my aching plight
Memories are no longer vivid and bright
And hope for “us” is nowhere in sight
The days have limped way past,
Our banner of love on half mast
The shadows of loneliness we’ve cast
Corrode my heart like some dark rust
I still want you close by my side
But this distance is an ocean wide
And a loveset view agonise my sight
When emotions haunt, there’s nowhere to hide
How do I ignore that which is within?
How do I shy away from what I am keen?
Do I keep a head high with tears on my chin?
This pain stain just won’t wash out clean…
My days are lonely, my nights are hurting
And an echo from the past is all I am getting

The poet persona feels scared and lonely during the night. The bard wishes someone is by his side. Each turn he makes during the night, he remembers his painful past_for the voice has no one to speak to.
